 Cat a tonic

Jenny Jones

So just before Christmas I competed in the first stop of the Winter Dew Tour in Breckenridge and came third which was a nice result. I then head home to Bristol for Christmas and I was surprised to see all the snow. I had a week and a half at home before heading straight back to the mountains but this time to Europe.
I spent a week staying with friends in the awesome Dragon Lodge in Tignes Le Lac, France. We had some good snow but the vis was dodgy.
Then on the 1st of January 2010 at 6am nursing a bit of a headache I jumped on a plane to Spokane in Washington, US. Here I meet up with the Oakley crew and we drove over the Canadian boarder into British Columbia, to a little resort called Retallack. This only has a small lodge with a catskiing facility. And that’s where I am now. I am here for a few more days and I have to say it is some of the best powder I have EVER ridden. Great terrain and amazing snow.

We take a thirty minute ride up the top of one of the three main peaks in the cat each morning. We’re dropped off and we ride pretty much fresh tracks all day. Its roughly 38 square kms (or in Canadian terms over 9000 acres of terrain) for only 24 guests.

When the team reached the bottom the cat picked us and we did it all over again. And on the way back up, we listened to music and had packed lunches with hot tea – the cat even had glove warmers, not bad eh? I’m so impressed by this place and a massive thank you to Oakley for inviting me on the trip.

I am off to bed now as its a 6am start, we are shooting photos and film and have three more days to gather footage of pillow lines, cliff drops and pow turns…woohoo.
